Course Description

Cannabis Use: Clinical Implications, Neurobiology, and Treatment Considerations is a self-paced professional training designed for clinicians who want to better understand how cannabis use may affect mental health, client functioning, diagnosis, and treatment planning. As cannabis products become more accessible, potent, and widely used, behavioral health professionals are increasingly called upon to assess cannabis use with clinical accuracy and without stigma. This course provides a practical, clinically relevant overview of cannabis-related concerns, helping participants strengthen their ability to identify risk factors, understand client presentations, and respond with appropriate treatment considerations. Participants will explore the relationship between cannabis use and areas such as anxiety, trauma, cognition, motivation, substance use patterns, and overall functioning. The training also emphasizes assessment, client-centered conversations, ethical considerations, and evidence-informed approaches that can be applied directly in clinical practice. This course is especially valuable for counselors, therapists, social workers, addiction professionals, and behavioral health providers working with clients who use cannabis recreationally, medically, or as a coping strategy. Upon completion, participants will be better equipped to discuss cannabis use with clients in a balanced, informed, and clinically appropriate manner. To receive continuing education credit, participants must complete the course material, evaluation, and post-test with a passing score of 70% or higher.
